BRIEF: Pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle in South Loop

June 07--A 37-year-old man died Saturday after being hit by a vehicle in the South Loop, police said.

The accident happened in the 1100 block of South Columbus Drive at 12:39 p.m., police said.

A vehicle was traveling north on Columbus Drive when the pedestrian walked into traffic and the vehicle struck him, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, police said.

He was identified as Richard Hill of the 3000 block of Monroe Street in Bellwood, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police were investigating.
