BRIEF: Paula Deen to sign new cookbook in Skokie

Nov. 10--Southern chef-turned-reality-TV-contestant Paula Deen is slated to sign her new cookbook "Paula Deen Cuts the Fat" next week in Skokie.

Deen, 68, is scheduled to appear from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Barnes and Noble, 55 Old Orchard Center in Skokie. Tickets to the event will be distributed Monday starting at 9 a.m., according to Barnes and Noble.

The cookbook, which was released in September, contains 50 recipes of Deen's southern favorites with less butter, salt and sugar than the original version, as well as 200 new recipes. Deen, who was once known as the "butter queen," revealed in 2012 that she had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

Deen, who recently showed off a weight loss of about 40 pounds, was eliminated last month from "Dancing with the Stars." She was dropped from the Food Network in 2013 after admitting she used racial epithets in the workplace.
