BRIEF: Officers alert Little Village family to electrical fire

Sept. 01--Officers patrolling their beat in Little Village woke up a family after they saw smoke coming from the roof of their home early Tuesday.

The officers, assigned to an area south of 26th Street between Kedzie and Lawndale avenues, banged on the home's doors while they asked their dispatcher to alert the Fire Department.

Fire crews found a small electrical fire in the ceiling and had it extinguished by about 12:30 a.m.

The officers, a supervisor and the family waited outside the brick home until crews were almost done working.

One member of the family uses a wheelchair, and the officers helped him into a home across the street.

No one was injured.
