BRIEF: Nick Offerman used wood from 'Parks and Recreation' set for paddles

March 22--A year after NBC aired the series finale of "Parks and Recreation," star Nick Offerman gave cast and crew members gifts he crafted from the show's set.

Offerman, who was born in Joliet and grew up in Minooka, salvaged wood to make canoe paddles, "Parks and Recreation" co-creator Michael Schur tweeted Monday.

The paddles feature the seal of Pawnee, Ind., the fictional city that served as the show's setting.

Offerman, an avid woodworker, titled his 2013 memoir "Paddle Your Own Canoe." He's scheduled to sign his 2015 book "Gumption" April 6 at North Central College's Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. in Naperville.

"Parks and Recreation," which also starred Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones, aired from 2009-2015.
