April 13--Mumford Sons, a band with a penchant for playing nontraditional concert venues, announced a tour Monday that will include a show June 17 at Cricket Hill at Montrose Beach on Chicago's lakefront.
Promoter Jam Productions said it would be the first major concert at the location -- which can accommodate 30,000 -- though there have been local shows there in the past.
As part of the upcoming tour, which begins June 2, the multimillion-selling, Grammy-winning U.K. band said it would play several "stopover festivals" with several other bands at unconventional sites. On its last tour, in 2012, the quartet played a stopover festival in Dixon, Ill. The Cricket Hill show is not a festival. One opening act was announced: the Maccabees.
Mumford Sons' third studio album, "Wilder Mind," will be out May 4.
Tickets ($65) go on sale Friday at www.mumfordandsons.com; the Vic Theatre box office, 3145 N. Sheffield'; or by calling 800-514-3849. There is a four ticket limit per order.
