Feb. 11--A Westchester man was the 11th person to die of cold-related causes in Cook County this winter season, the medical examiner's office determined Wednesday.
Eugene Gawrysiak, 52, was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Loyola University Medical Center, according to the medical examiner's office. Gawrysiak was believed to have been found in Elmhurst, according to the office.
Gawrysiak died of complications of hypothermia due to cold exposure, with obesity and alcohol toxicity contributing factors, the office determined following a medical examination Wednesday.
Elmhurst police have not had any contact with Gawrysiak or any calls about someone suffering from exposure or an unconscious person, police Chief Michael Ruth said in an email Wednesday
Gawrysiak, who lived in the 1400 block of Manchester Avenue in Westchester, is the 11th person to die of cold-related causes in Cook County this winter, according to a spokeswoman for the office.
