BRIEF: Man fatally shot while trying to break into apartment, resident tells deputies

March 12--A man was shot dead as he tried to break into a Canyon Country man's apartment late Friday, the resident told the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The occupant of the apartment in the 26000 block of Isabella Parkway called deputies about 9:10 p.m. to report that he had just shot a man who was trying to break in, according to the sheriff's department.

When they arrived at the scene, deputies found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.

The unidentified man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The resident told deputies the man tried to break into his apartment and ignored several warnings to leave.

The resident said he opened fire after the man broke a window and was starting to climb inside the apartment, according to authorities.

A handgun was recovered at the scene and the resident was detained for questioning.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
