BRIEF: Jury selection begins in 2013 killing, robbery in Zion

Dec. 02--The Chicago Tribune Media Group's Lake County News-Sun reports: Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a man charged with being the gunman in the slaying and robbery of a man outside a Zion grocery store in 2013.

Jamal Johnson, 32, is charged with first-degree murder in the May 23, 2013 shooting death of Mutassem Ahmad Abdelaziz, 23, outside of an Aldi grocery store, 2861 Sheridan Road, in Zion.

Johnson, of Zion, is the only one of three defendants charged in the case to go to trial. The other two defendants, Douglas Alexander of Zion and Rashee Bell of North Chicago, both accepted negotiated plea deals and could testify in Johnson's trial.

Johnson has been identified by police and prosecutors as the shooter in the case.
