BRIEF: Inglewood police shoot two suspects, killing one, during confrontation

Feb. 21--Inglewood police shot two suspects, killing one armed with a gun, following a confrontation early Sunday, authorities said.

The incident began when officers got a call about a suspicious vehicle stopped near the intersection of Manchester Boulevard and Inglewood Avenue about 3:10 a.m., said Scott Collins, a spokesman for the Inglewood Police Department.

The officers noticed the woman in the car had a gun and ordered her and a male occupant to exit the vehicle, Collins said. Officers then took cover and opened fire, hitting both suspects.

The woman was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting, and the man succumbed to his injuries after paramedics transported him to a local hospital. No police officers were injured.

Collins would not say whether the suspects had refused to exit the vehicle or if the woman shot at or pointed the gun at police officers.

Police recovered a firearm at the scene, Collins said. The suspects' names have not been released.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing.
