BRIEF: Five shot near San Jose nightclub where Chris Brown was performing

Jan. 11--Five people were shot and injured early Sunday near a San Jose nightclub where singer Chris Brown had made an appearance, according to police and local news reports.

Police responded to a 911 call at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday reporting that a person was shot near a nightclub in the 3800 block of Monterey Road in San Jose. When they arrived, officers found four people injured with at least one gunshot wound each, according to the San Jose Police Department.

The four were taken to a local hospital. Shortly after, a fifth person suffering from a gunshot wound that wasn't life threatening walked into the hospital, police said in a statement.

Police have detained several people as part of the investigation, and officers have been canvassing the area. The circumstances and motive surrounding the shootings are still being investigated, officials said.

Police provided no additional information.

Celebrity singer Brown was at the nearby Fiesta nightclub Saturday night as part of a VIP birthday event, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

A video that was posted on social media sites showed Brown performing when shots suddenly rang out.
