BRIEF: Fire breaks out at Gold Coast highrise, no injuries reported

Nov. 02--No injuries were reported in a fire that broke out Sunday afternoon on the 10th floor of a highrise building in the city's Gold Coast neighborhood.

The fire started shortly before 1 p.m. at a building located on the 1300 block of North Lake Shore Drive. It was quickly extinguished and there were no reports of injuries, according to Fire Media information.

As of 1:30 p.m. the fire was out and Fire Media spokesman Will Knight said firefighters were working to free people who had become trapped in an elevator during the fire. Those who had been trapped were all free by about 2 p.m.

As a precaution, at least six ambulances were sent to the scene earlier following the declaration of an Emergency Medical Services Plan 1, which is typical for highrise fires.
