BRIEF: FBI: Man robs 4th South Side bank

Nov. 26--A man suspected of robbing three other South Side banks this fall and dubbed the ABC Bandit by the Chicago FBI held up a Back of the Yards bank this afternoon, authorities said.

The man robbed the First Merit Bank, 1745 W. 47th St., this afternoon, according to the FBI's Bandit Tracker website. The man entered the bank about 3:30 p.m. and went up to a teller, then passed the teller a note implying that he had a gun, said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

Police and the FBI had conflicting information about whether a gun was shown in the robbery.

The robber took off with cash, Zala said.

The same man is believed to have robbed a CitiBank, 2000 W. 79th St., on Oct. 14, as weel as a Fifth Third Bank, 8140 S. Ashland Ave., on Oct. 28 and an ABC Bank branch at 9443 S. Ashland on Oct. 18, according to the FBI's BanditTracker website.

The robber is described as African-American, between the ages of 25 and 30, with brown eyes and is about 5-foot-8. In Tuesday's robbery, he was wearing a yellow or tan puffy coat.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call the FBI at 312-421-6700.
