BRIEF: Ex-Chicago Bear's son gets wish to be a cop after cancer diagnosis

Jan. 08--The Chicago Tribune Media Group's Lake County News-Sun reports: Dressed in a police uniform and flanked by his mom and dad, 7-year-old AJ Peterson had his wish come true earlier this week when he was pinned and sworn in as an honorary Round Lake Police officer.

AJ, the oldest of four children of former Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson and his wife, Angela, was diagnosed in June with an inoperable brain tumor known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). The Peterson family learned the devastating news while on a vacation in Florida.

"Being told that your child has cancer can be very lonely," Angela Peterson said. "When people reach out, for that moment, it's not so lonely anymore."

On Monday, Jan. 5, the Village of Round Lake and the Make-A-Wish Foundation made sure no one in the Peterson family felt alone.
