BRIEF: Dylan's Candy Bar opens for holiday sugar rush

Nov. 20--It's like the Fun Size of openings: Dylan's Candy Bar has unlocked its doors and stocked some jars at 445 N. Michigan Ave., just in time for the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival on Saturday, when it will be giving away gummy-bear ornaments with any $25 purchase (while supplies last).

The official opening for the New York import founded by Dylan Lauren isn't until spring. But it appears Lauren inherited dad Ralph Lauren's business sense and got enough of the storefront up and running to accommodate the holiday sugar rush.

Housed in the Tribune Tower -- perilously convenient to office workers therein -- Dylan's Candy Bar Chicago is the fifth freestanding store and the first in the Midwest, after New York, Los Angeles, Miami Beach and East Hampton.

In its entirety, it will span two floors and 13,000 square feet, with a signature lollipop tree, thousands of candies from around the world and a full service caf頡nd bar that can be booked for everything from kids' birthday parties to corporate events. The Dylan's Candy Bar concept store also will feature art installations and allow vendors a chance to curate creative "swing shops."
