Friday's recap: Cubs 1, Brewers 0

May 02--The summary

Jon Lester recorded his 30th career start of at least seven innings with no runs allowed Friday to earn his first victory for the Cubs. Rookie Addison Russell's third inning homer was his first in the big leagues and good for the 1-0 victory at Wrigley Field.

On the mound

Cubs pitchers have thrown four shutouts this season, all at Wrigley Field. On Friday, Lester, Pedro Strop and Hector Rondon limited the Brewers to four hits, the last a two-out double in the ninth.

At the plate

Anthony Rizzo was hit by a pitch in the third inning for the eighth time this season to lead the majors in that category. Starlin Castro leads all National League shortstops with 29 hits.

The number

7 -- Dexter Fowler's hitting streak reached seven games. He's hitting .320, 16-for-50, overall at Wrigley Field).

The quote

"Early on I wasn't great with command. A lot of 1-0 counts. But we were able to make the pitch when we needed. ... It all comes back to fastball command and it was a lot better." -- Lester

The quote II

"I'm sure Jon is the kind of guy, even if he's 4-0 with a 0.50 ERA, he'd still be upset with himself. That's just who he is. That's how the great ones are." -- manager Joe Maddon on the self-critical Lester
