Sept. 30--A man who officials initially indicated was a murder suspect is facing several charges after police say he led them on a high-speed chase late Tuesday afternoon on the West Side.
Desmond Henry, 25, of the 100 block of North Laporte Avenue, was charged Wednesday with four counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated fleeing police more than 21 mph over the speed limit, possession of a controlled substance, manufacturing and delivery of cannabis, two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer with a motor vehicle and numerous traffic citations, police said.
Henry also had an arrest warrant against him.
Tuesday's chase began about 5:15 p.m. when officers attempted to make an investigatory stop on Henry's vehicle near Polk Street and California Avenue.
Instead of cooperating, Henry led officers on a pursuit to the 200 block of North Central Avenue in the city's East Garfield Park neighborhood where he was arrested, according to police.
The chase was captured by television news cameras.
Henry was scheduled to appear Wednesday afternoon at a bail hearing.
