BRIEF: CHRP will honor Tommy Tune

Feb. 04--Choreographer and director Tommy Tune will receive the JUBA! Award from the Chicago Human Rhythm Project at its Jubalee Gala in July, the company announced Wednesday. Aside from his tall stature, Tune is best known for helming such Broadway shows as "Nine" and "Grand Hotel," among many others.

CHRP also announced dates for the Chicago Rhythm Fest's spring opening series of free events, called Stomping Grounds. On April 18, Trinity Irish Dance Company and Mexican Dance Ensemble will perform at the Irish American Heritage Center (4626 N. Knox Ave.). Those same companies will again perform at the National Museum of Mexican Art (1852 W. 19th St.) April 24. On April 30, Ensemble Espanol Spanish Dance Theatre and Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago will take the stage of Northeastern Illinois University (5500 N. St. Louis Ave.), and May 8 at the DuSable Museum of African American History (740 E. 56th Place). For tickets and information visit chicagotap.org.
