BRIEF: Chinatown car accident injures 2, including off-duty police officer

Feb. 08--An off-duty Chicago police officer and another person were hurt during a car accident early Sunday morning in the Chinatown neighborhood, police said.

Two cars collided around 1:15 a.m. at an intersection in the 2300 block of South Canal Street, police said.

A Ford Fusion was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Archer Avenue when it disobeyed a street signal and struck a Saab, police said.

The driver of Saab was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and the 24-year-old man, who drove Ford Fusion, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.

The conditions of both were stabilized.

Exact age of the male who was driving the Saab was not immediately available, and it was unclear which car the off-duty police officer was driving.

No other information about the accident was readily available.
