BRIEF: Casting announced for 'Dreamgirls' at Porchlight

Feb. 12--Porchlight Music Theatre has announced casting for "Dreamgirls," the Henry Krieger musical about a '60s female singing group and the cost of their growing fame.

Donica Lynn will star as Effie Melody White, a role made famous by Jennifer Holliday on Broadway in 1981 and by Jennifer Hudson in the 2006 film. Candace C. Edwards as Deena Jones and Katherine Thomas as Lorrell Robinson will complete the trio. Evan Tyrone Martin will play Curtis Taylor Jr.

The cast also includes Caleb Baze, Michelle Bester, Dawn Bless, Kyrie Courter, Gilbert Domally, Jared Grant, Matthew Hunter, Reneisha Jenkins, J. Michael Jones, Eric Lewis, Andrew Malone, Brian Nelson Jr., Trequon Tate and Cherise Thomas.

As previously announced, Brenda Didier will direct with music direction by Doug Peck.

"Dreamgirls," runs April 8 -- May 15 at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont.
