BRIEF: No bail for teen charged as adult in Monday fatal shooting in Little Village

July 14--A 16-year-old boy was denied bail Tuesday after being accused in a Monday fatal shooting in the city's Little Village neighborhood.

Andrew Zamora was charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the death of a 21-year-old man, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office.

About 4:30 that morning, the victim was a passenger in a vehicle that was driving in the 2400 block of Sawyer Avenue. The vehicle stopped next to a youth standing on the sidewalk, police said.

After an exchange of words, the youth, later identified as Zamora, pulled a handgun and opened fire, striking the passenger several times in the chest, police said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Officers who responded to the shooting caught Zamora after a brief foot chase, and a weapon was recovered, authorities said. He appeared Tuesday afternoon at a bail hearing, where he was denied bail.

Zamora's next court date was scheduled for Aug. 3.
