BRIEF: Boy, 7, seriously hurt when chunk of concrete thrown at family car

Jan. 01--A 7-year-old boy was seriously hurt when a group of teens threw a chunk of concrete at a car as he rode with his family on the South Side, Chicago police said.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of West 46th Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, according to police.

Three teens walked up to the car and started throwing objects at it, hitting the boy in the head with a chunk of concrete, police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

Police said the attackers ranged in age from 13 to 18. No one was in custody Thursday.
