BRIEF: Boy, 14, shot to death in south suburban Riverdale

Jan. 26--A 14-year-old boy was shot to death on a street in south suburban Riverdale over the weekend, according to police.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired around 7:25 p.m. Sunday and found Rashad Oliver with a gunshot wound to the head in the 14300 block of Dearborn Street, according to a statement from Riverdale police.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9:39 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Rashad was a junior high school student in Dolton Riverdale School District 148, where counselors were on hand Monday, police said. A teacher at Roosevelt Junior High School said Oliver was an eighth grader there.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was assisting Riverdale police in the homicide investigation, authorities said.
