BRIEF: Aurora taking part in program to aid first-time homebuyers

March 23--The city of Aurora has partnered with Standard Bank on the Assist Homeownership Program, which offers down payment and closing cost assistance to new homebuyers.

The first information session on the program will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Aurora Public Library-Eola Branch, 555 S. Eola Road.

The Assist Homeownership Program offers up to 5 percent down payment and closing cost assistance to qualified first-time home buyers purchasing their home in Aurora. Repayment is not required.

Interested potential first-time homebuyers are encouraged to attend an information session to learn more about the program's benefits and requirements, city officials said. The sessions will also include information on how such grant programs can help qualified buyers to purchase a home and how to simplify the home-buying process.

Two additional information sessions are scheduled April 28 and May 26, both from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Aurora Public Library-Eola Branch.

All sessions are free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
