BRIEF: Police: Couple in their 60s, relative in his 30s dead in murder-suicide

Feb. 22--Police say a couple in their 60s and a relative in his 30s died in an apparent murder-suicide in Merrillville, Ind., over the weekend.

Officers performing a well-being check in the 3600 block of West 79th Avenue found John Meeks, 66, Olga Meeks, 65, and Eric Meeks, 34, dead about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Merrillville police.

It appeared they had all been shot, and their deaths appeared to stem from a domestic incident, police said.

The Lake County coroner's officer determined the deaths of John and Olga Meeks, 65, to be homicides, and the death of Eric Meeks a suicide.

All three were related, according to Merrillville police, but it was not immediately clear how.
