April 21--PITTSBURGH -- Addison Russell will make his major league debut for the Chicago Cubs at second base and bat ninth Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates and left-hander Francisco Liriano.
Russell, who was informed of his promotion late Monday night from Triple-A Iowa, reviewed the second base position with infield coach Gary Jones at PNC Park. Russell, 21, has played shortstop most of his professional career but has played second base in the Arizona Fall League and moved there last Thursday.
Russell, who batted .318 with Iowa and has a .301 minor league batting average, will wear No. 22. Infielder Arismendy Alcantara, who was batting .077 (2-for-26 in 11 games), was optioned to Iowa.
To make room for Russell on the 40-man roster, infielder Mike Olt was transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. Olt suffered a hairline fracture of his right wrist on April 12.
Chris Denorfia will start for the Cubs in left field.
