BRIEF: 88-year-old man with memory loss missing from Far North Side

April 26--A man from West Rogers Park who has memory loss because of other health issues drove away from home Monday evening and is now missing, police said.

Joseph Helmer, 88, left the 6100 block of North Hoyne Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Monday and was last seen driving north on Western Avenue from Granville Avenue in his tan 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, according to a missing person alert issued by police. He did not take his cellphone with him and does not have an iPass, police said.

Helmer has medical ailments and suffers from memory loss because of heart disease and a stroke, according to police.

His car has Illinois License Plate number YVL547.

Helmer is a white man, standing 5-foot-7 and weighing about 160 pounds. He has blue eyes and white hair. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved shirt with a blue-and-white checkered design, blue jeans and white socks.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area North SVU detectives at 312-744-8266.
