BRIEF: Palatine shooting that injured 2 was gang-related, police say

Dec. 12--Two people, including a 17-year-old boy, were wounded in a gang-related shooting in northwest suburban Palatine on Thursday evening, police said.

Police responded to the Baldwin Green Apartments in the 1900 block of Green Lane at about 7:30 p.m. and found two people with gunshot wounds: a 17-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man. Paramedics took them to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

As of Friday afternoon, both the boy and man were still in the hospital, according to a release from Palatine police. No further information was provided about the victims' conditions.

Witness statements and physical evidence point to a gang-related shooting and not a random act of violence, police said. The shooter approached the 17-year-old and 35-year-old on foot and began shooting at them with a handgun, police said.

Police said an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the shooting is encouraged to call 847-359-9000 or Palatine-Inverness Crime Stoppers at 847-590-7867.
