Bride under fire for demanding sister remove medical device for wedding as it's 'ugly'

A woman is reportedly facing a backlash from her family as she is refusing to remove medical devices she wears because of her Type 1 diabetes before her sister's wedding. She is due to be a bridesmaid on her sister's big day but when they were recently looking at dresses the bride-to-be asked if she could move the devices as she was worried it would look 'ugly' in pictures.

Due to her condition, the woman says she needs to wear a blood sugar monitor on one arm and an insulin pump on the other but her family wants her to move these to her stomach for the big day.

The woman has shared the dilemma online and the bride has since come under fire from those who read the tale.

Taking to Reddit, the sister told how her family has grown more and more frustrated with her as she has refused to move the devices even though they are not comfortable elsewhere on her body.

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "My sister is getting married next weekend and I'm a bridesmaid. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and I wear two medical devices, a Dexcom blood sugar monitor on one arm and a Omnipod insulin pump on the other.

"They're both really small and work together to automatically monitor and regulate my blood sugar levels. This basically means I don't have to prick my fingers to test blood sugar or give myself insulin injections, the system does that automatically and makes my life way easier."

The woman added that when her sister asked her to remove them for the wedding, she refused and said they were essential. However, the bride-to-be complained to the rest of her family and friends.

"They say it's no big deal if I just don't wear them during the wedding, but I don't see why I should," said the woman.

"Mum suggested I could move them to my stomach, but I've tried that before and find it incredibly uncomfortable.

"When I put a new sensor on, I'm stuck with it for 10 days until it expires and I can switch to a new one, and I don't want to be stuck with one on my stomach where it will bother me the entire time.

"They're all complaining that I'm not willing to compromise at all, but I don't think my health should be an area where anyone can ask that I compromise at all."

In response, many have sided with her and have said the bride and her family should not be getting her to compromise on her health.

One person wrote: "Promptly decline the invitation to attend if your sister cares more about her aesthetic wants than your medical needs."

While another stated: "There is no way you should endanger your health, or unnecessarily suffer discomfort, just because she doesn't want medical equipment in her pictures."
