Bride arrested and handcuffed in her dress on her wedding day in Mexico

A Mexican bride-to-be was arrested on her wedding day after allegedly extorting and kidnapping chicken farm workers.

The woman, identified only as Nancy N, was photographed handcuffed in her wedding dress surrounded by police.

Sky News reports that officers ambushed her before she made it to the church for the ceremony.

The bride was detained as she got out of her vehicle to enter a church in Villa Guerrero, according to local media reports.

Authorities have said she and her soon-to-be husband are accused of extorting chicken merchants in Toluca, near Mexico City, and suspected of kidnapping four workers from a poultry shop.

Her husband-to-be, nicknamed El Raton - meaning the mouse - managed to escape the dramatic scene.

The man, who has been named as Clemente N, is wanted for the same charges.

According to authorities, six other people have also been arrested for their involvement in the scam.

The whole group allegedly has ties to the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel, authorities have said.

The prosecutor’s office posted photos of the suspects detained during the operation in December on social media - including the bride handcuffed in her wedding dress.

The police investigation continues.
