Brian Burns tweets amidst reports of contract dispute

Well, it still seems like Brian Burns wants to stay in Charlotte.

With his long-term status as uncertain as ever, the two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher sent a little message out on Twitter this afternoon . . .

This comes amidst multiple reports of the fruitless contract talks between the 25-year-old outside linebacker and the Carolina Panthers. A nugget from ESPN’s David Newton from Tuesday noted that Burns was seeking at least $30 million per season on a new deal while the latest, courtesy of The Athletic‘s Joe Person, suggests Carolina was willing to come up to $27 million in annual value.

Yesterday also marked the opening of the franchise tag window, another key stage in this ongoing saga. The Panthers have until March 5 to exercise the tag on Burns, who could hit the open market this spring.

If that’s the case, Burns may also be at peace with whatever, or whoever, comes next.

“The best thing I can do is be ready,” he said of his situation back on Jan. 8. “If it do turn out that they do wanna keep me here and I stay, I’m ready. And if turns out I have to go somewhere else, I’m definitely ready for that, too. So as long as I’m ready in any angle, I’m fine.”
