Brett Morris won't rule out playing on

Veteran Brett Morris says there's no reason why he can't play on beyond the 2021 NRL season. (AAP)

Brett Morris has declared there's no cap on his potential to play on next year as he prepares for his 16th season of NRL.

Taking inspiration from Cameron Smith's form over the past few seasons, the 34-year-old Morris says there is no need for him to call time on his career if he's still feeling good.

The former Australia and NSW Origin star signed a one-year deal with the Sydney Roosters at the end of last year but denied it means he'll be done after 2021.

"Personally I never look that far ahead, you're just wasting your energy if you do that," the winger told AAP.

"You look at Cameron Smith, I don't even know how old he is but he's still going around and probably could still go around again for another couple of years. He's an animal."

Should Morris play on in 2022 he would be 36 by the end of that season, while Smith is yet to announce his retirement at 37.

Morris proved he is still among the best wingers in the game while scoring 12 tries in 17 games last season.

And while he and twin brother Josh are set to turn 35 in August, increased specialised training has kept the pair - who have been battered over years in the representative arena - playing at their peak.

"Obviously with the way that clubs train and the way they look after you and the GPS data and all of that sort of stuff, it has enabled old guys to play on for longer," he said.

"So there's no cap on it. We'll wait and see.

"When you've got all of these young fellas around they make you feel young."
