Brendan Rodgers in plea to ‘wonderful’ Youri Tielemans amid contract decision and Arsenal transfer links

Brendan Rodgers insists he has not given up hope of Youri Tielemans signing a new contract at Leicester as the Belgian moves into the final months of his existing deal.

The highly-rated Tielemans, a £32million signing from Monaco in 2019 following an initial loan, has been linked with Arsenal among a number of top clubs with the expectation being that he leaves on a free transfer next summer.

Leicester's ability to hang on to the 25-year-old has been hurt by their struggles this season - whereas they have been fighting for European places in recent seasons they will head to Everton on Saturday in the bottom three of the Premier League with only three wins from 13 so far this term.

But Rodgers believes there is still a chance Tielemans stays at the King Power Stadium.

“In terms of fitness, he's been okay," Rodgers said.

“He has been a fantastic professional for us, even though he is in the situation with his contract.

“He's never wavered from his mentality and what he gives to the team. He provides the team with know-how in the game; he is wonderful to work with.

“I'd love him to sign another deal and continue his journey at Leicester, but we'll see."
