The Football Association of Ireland has confirmed that Tottenham right-back Matt Doherty has tested positive for Covid-19.
Named in the Republic of Ireland's starting XI on Sunday evening as they lost 1-0 against Wales in a UEFA Nations League game, the 28-year-old played the full 90 minutes at Cardiff City Stadium.
Doherty isn't the only member of Ireland's squad to test positive as Stoke City's James McClean also returned a positive test.
However, the rest of the staff and squad tested negative prior to their flight back to Dublin on Monday morning ahead of Wednesday's match against Bulgaria.
A statement from the FAI read: "The players have been isolated from the group as per COVID-19 protocols, and the HSE have been informed of this development.
"The rest of the staff & squad tested negative ahead of the flight back to Dublin this morning before the UEFA Nations League match against Bulgaria on Wednesday."
Now ruled out of Wednesday's game against Bulgaria, Doherty's positive test means he will also be absent this weekend for Tottenham when they return to Premier League action.
As government rules state that people must isolate for ten days when symptoms start or from the day of testing if asymptomatic, the ex-Wolves man will not be able to play for the Lilywhites on Saturday evening when Man City make the trip to N17.
Spurs are then back in action on the Thursday in the Europa League against Ludogorets and that is another game they could be without the Irishman.
Tottenham's next league match after their European fixture comes against Chelsea on Sunday, November 29.
