Paul Pierce is in the business of making predictions about sports. It comes with the territory of being an in-studio analyst for ESPN. And when you make a bunch of predictions about sports stuff, you’re bound to be wrong from time to time.
Pierce, though, has been wrong a lot. Like, spectacularly wrong.
You can probably recall when Pierce emphatically stated that the Celtics-Bucks series was “over” after Boston took Game 1. Well, the Bucks went on to take the series by racking up four straight wins. The prediction was so bad that Pierce had to apologize to Milwaukee just in hopes of preserving his credibility. He also chose the Rockets to eliminate the Warriors, which didn’t exactly work out either.
But hey, Pierce can’t be wrong forever — we think. When it came time to make his prediction for Sunday’s Game 7 between the Trail Blazers and Nuggets, Pierce sided with the road team. He thought that Damian Lillard would lead the Blazers over Denver.
Odds wouldn’t be on Pierce’s favor as road teams are a dismal 28-105 in NBA playoffs Game 7’s.
UPDATE: HE WAS RIGHT. The Trail Blazers won, 100-96. Pierce’s nightmare is over … for now.
