New York JFK Airport: Multiple people hurt in bus crash causing huge delays to airport

A bus crash 'in the confines' of New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport has left multiple people injured.

Authorities have said 15 people were injured from the smash which happened around 6am on the northbound Van Wyck Expressway, exiting the airport.

Delta Airlines says their bus had already broken down and their employees were getting off when the commuter van apparently struck from behind.

Officials say the injuries are non-life-threatening and have been evaluated at the scene.

All lanes are shut down on the outbound side of the Van Wyck.

Video from the scene shows emergency responders working in the area of a blue bus sitting slightly askew on the major road.

A smaller van appears to have connected with the bus but this has not yet been confirmed.

Reporter for CBS Jim Smith, who is in a helicopter above the scene, said: "This is right withn the confines of JFK airport. it's on the Northbound side of the Van Wyck Expressway.

"Its an accident between a bus and another vehicle. One of those van type shuttles."
