Man rushed to hospital after being 'assaulted' in Northern Quarter

A man was taken to hospital by paramedics after reports he was assaulted in the Northern Quarter on Thursday evening (June 23). Police cordoned off Tib Street, near the city centre, at around 6.30pm.

The cordon remained in place for a number of hours. Paramedics rushed to the scene to find a male on the ground - it is thought he was assaulted in the incident.

Witnesses at the scene told the Manchester Evening News they saw two men, before one was 'punched' by the other. They added he was then tackled to the ground, with blood seen in the road. It is not thought any arrests have been made yet and police are appealing for information.

A small cordon was in place on Tib Street, on the corner beside the Evuna Tapas bar, with multiple police vehicles at the scene and officers stood within the taped off area. The condition of the victim or nature of injuries is yet to be confirmed.

One eyewitness was sitting in a bar opposite the scene with his friends when the incident happened. He said he saw two men walking from Oldham Road towards Tib Street.

“When they got to the corner then one of them swung for the other, and then did it again,” he said. “He punched him straight in the face and then got him on the floor, and then walked off.”

He said the man on the floor wasn’t moving, and was taken away in an ambulance, describing the encounter as “actually quite shocking”.

A woman working in a nearby restaurant said she caught the entire encounter on CCTV. She also said she saw two men walking along the road, with one then attacking the other - although she couldn’t see what happened exactly.

“He fell to the ground, and the other man just walked off. He had to be taken away in an ambulance," she said.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 6.30pm on Thursday 23 June 2022, we were called by the ambulance services responding to an incident on Tib Street, Manchester City Centre. A male, who’s believed to have been assaulted, was taken to hospital."
