Man, 95, dies in car park crash; woman, 86, is helping police

A man aged 95 has died after he was hit by a car as he walked on a 'designated path' in a car park, police have said.

Emergency services attended but tragically he was pronounced dead at the scene, Greater Manchester Police said.

The man hasn't been named.

Police said a woman, aged 86, 'stayed at the scene to assist police', but no arrests have been made.

Enquiries are ongoing.

The tragedy happened on a car park at Kingsgate House off the A6 Wellington Road North in Stockport.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at 12.15pm today - Wednesday.

No further details have been revealed.

It's understood NHS services are based within Kingsgate House. There have been no reports of any further injuries.

In a statement, GMP said: "A 95-year-old man has died after being in collision with a vehicle in a car park in Stockport today.

"The man was walking on a designated path at Kingsgate House, Wellington Road North, when he was struck by a Vauxhall Meriva at 12.15pm.

"Emergency services attended but, sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"An 86-year-old woman stayed at the scene to assist police but no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

The force has now issued an appeal for witnesses.
