BREAKING: Man, 40, arrested after police cordon off Piccadilly Gardens

A man has been arrested after a fight broke out in Piccadilly Gardens.

Police officers were called to the scene in the city centre at around 10.20pm on Monday night (April 25). A man - aged in his 30s - was taken to hospital.

He sustained a head wound, police said, and was discharged the next morning. Officers have now confirmed that a 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He is being questioned in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. A cordon was put in place after the incident, with a section of Piccadilly Gardens taped off on Tuesday morning.

Pictures taken at the scene showed evidence markers in place on the ground within the police tape. The cordon was lifted by around 10.30am.

In a statement issued this morning, a GMP spokesperson said: "A man has been arrested following a report of a fight in Piccadilly Gardens in the city centre. Officers were called shortly after 10.20pm on Monday 25 April 2022 to a report of a fight.

"A man in his 30s was taken to hospital and was discharged the following morning. We've now arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody at this time and enquiries are on-going."
