Danny Drinkwater has completed his move to Burnley on loan for the first half of the 2019/20 season from Chelsea.
The midfielder has not played a minute of football for the Blues since the Community Shield in 2018 and was not part of Maurizio Sarri's plans last season.
The 29-year-old was part of the early summer pre-season, however was not involved in the squad to face RB Salzburg and Borussia Monchengladbach for the final two matches.
Even though Frank Lampard claimed that everyone was coming into the summer on a clean slate, Drinkwater has not done enough to convince the former Blues midfielder that he should be part of the squad.
Drinkwater will be looking for first team football at the Clarets having spent so much time on the sidelines, not getting any time actually on the pitch.
However Sean Dyche stated that Drinkwater will have to work hard for his opportunities with the club.
"I think it would be a challenge for him, I don't think one second he comes here and thinks he walks in the team," Dyche said.
"It would be a bit naive if he did. We like the players that have done well for us over time.
"On the other hand I certainly dont think he lacks believe in himself to forge his way into the side and that's the hunger and desire that we want obviously and that extra competitive edge to the situation we find ourselves in.
"It was more highlighted with Steven Defour, his continued work to get back from injury which he is doing well with but it's going to be longer term I think, certainly not weeks."
