BREAKING: Car parking at West Dunbartonshire parks set to be stopped

Car parks at locations like Moss O'Balloch and Balloch Park will be closed in order to limit the spread of coronavirus West Dunbartonshire Council have confirmed.

The decision was made after a large number of people defied advice to avoid any unnecessary journeys to drive to the area's beauty spots and green spaces, with Balloch Park proving especially popular.

In a statement released online, West Dunbartonshire Council said: "We’re lucky to have many beautiful parks in our area and are encouraging residents to make use of their local greenspace to exercise in line with Government guidance to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

"Unfortunately, a large number of people are ignoring the Government measures put in place by continuing to drive to parks in our area, particularly in Balloch.

"Working with Police Scotland, we’ll be closing car parks to prevent vehicles accessing our parks and encourage people to follow social distancing measures which are in place for their protection."

The latest figures, published this afternoon by the Scottish Government, showed that 3001 people have now tested positive for Covid-19 across the country, with 172 deaths as a result of the virus.
