Atletico Madrid sign Kieran Trippier in £20m deal from Tottenham

Kieran Trippier has departed Tottenham.

The right-back has left Spurs and joined Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in a deal thought to be in the region of £20million.

Trippier has signed a three-year contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The 28-year-old spent four season at Spurs, making 114 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing 24 assists.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the defender's future, with a number of clubs keen on signing him this summer.

Napoli and Juventus were the first teams to make a move, but it is the Spanish giants who have won the race for his signature.

Trippier carried a groin injury for much of last season which saw his form dip for Spurs following the high of his free-kick goal in the World Cup semi-final against Croatia.

He becomes the first player from Tottenham's Champions League final squad to leave this summer and his departure leaves Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters vying for the right-back berth.

Aurier has only just returned from the Ivory Coast's African Cup of Nations campaign, meaning Walker-Peters is the only recognised right-back on the tour of Singapore and China.
