Arsenal suffer double injury blow as Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari limp off vs Man City

Granit Xhaka is facing a spell on the sidelines after being substituted inside the first 10 minutes of Arsenal's Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The midfielder accidentally collided with teammate Matteo Guendouzi and came off worst.

After receiving medical treatment from the Gunners' physio, the decision was made to withdraw Xhaka from the action as he was replaced by on-loan midfielder Dani Ceballos.

Arteta believes Arsenal can reach ‘right agreement’ with Aubameyang

To make matters even worse, the Gunners suffered another blow before half-time.

This time it was on-loan defender Pablo Mari who was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury and he was replaced by David Luiz - who was a surprise omission when the team news was released.

With the Spaniard's loan deal set to expire on June 30, it remains to be seen if the injury could harm his chances of earning a permanent contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Furthermore, head coach Mikel Arteta could now be facing a defensive crisis.

Before the game, @D2Smedia are reported that Sokratis was to miss the clash at the Etihad Stadium with a knock that hasn't yet been disclosed.

That proved to be true, meaning Arteta's three fit centre-backs are Shkodran Mustafi, Luiz and Rob Holding.
