BREAKING: Armed police seen in Rutherglen and Toryglen due to ongoing incident

Armed police have been seen on the streets of Rutherglen and Toryglen in response to sightings of a man with a weapon in the area.

Armed response cars and a helicopter were spotted around the Prospecthill Circus area earlier this morning.

Social media posts speculated that police were seen around a nursery in the area, as well as a local sports camp.

Video posted on Twitter shows armed cops patrolling the area and there remains a high police presence.

Lanarkshire Live understands that the incident is around the Toryglen community centre, and that the nursery there was locked down as a result.

Rutherglen residents also posted online that the helicopter was hovering over the area for a lengthy time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10am on Wednesday, 7 July, we received a report of a man in possession of what appeared to be a weapon in the Prospecthill Circus area of Glasgow.

“Officers are in attendance carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance to the community. Anyone who may have been in the area and saw anything which might help with enquiries is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 0825 of 7 July.”
