Bravo star Jax Taylor not returning to The Valley, will ‘focus on sobriety’

Bravo star Jax Taylor will not be returning to The Valley for season three.

In a statement obtained by Variety, Taylor said: “After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I’ll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley.

“Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and coparenting relationship. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself — especially for our son, Cruz.”

Originally of Vanderpump Rules fame, Taylor — who shares his son with his ex and castmate Brittany Cartwright — openly shared his struggle with cocaine addiction in March, ahead of the season two premiere of The Valley.

One of the major plot lines of the show’s current season has been Taylor’s sobriety and mental health journeys. In the second episode of the season, Taylor, 46, was seen packing his belongings in preparation to head to a mental health treatment facility. During that episode, he and Cartwright, 36, had a heated on-camera argument over Taylor’s behavior.

“I don’t even recognize who you are anymore,” Cartwright said. “Jax, you scared me! You scared me, and you hurt me,” she continued, referring to an altercation in which Taylor allegedly threw furniture at Cartwright. She went on, saying she’s had to go to therapy for what she’s endured with Taylor.

“You need to go get help for yourself and for our son,” Cartwright pleaded. “He cannot grow up and become a person like you.”

After a contentious conversation, Cartwright then laid down the line. “If you do not stay the 30 days, I’m filing right away,” she warned Taylor. “I’m taking Cruz, getting full custody, and I’m putting a restraining order against you, and you’re gonna lose your job.”

“Jax, you have the coke problem. Everybody knows it,” Cartwright continued. “Own up to it. Be real with the doctors. You are the one who has the addiction,” she continued. “Give me a drug test right now. I will pass. Will you?”

Cartwright ultimately filed for divorce in 2024 while filming the show, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Their divorce has been another major plot line on season two of The Valley, with Taylor being served on camera.

Fans have watched the rise and fall of Taylor’s relationship with Cartwright for the last decade; from the early blissful days on Vanderpump Rules, to the “Rot in hell” heard around the world when Taylor admitted to cheating on Cartwright, to their stunning 2019 Kentucky wedding followed by their 2024 divorce filing.

But some of those same fans have repeatedly called for the network to terminate Taylor due to his behavior. As a result, the reaction to him stepping back from the show has been mixed.

“Oh thank god. It’s about time he was off our screens,” one person wrote on X while another agreed, “Thanks god honestly. Giving this man any more of a platform is crazy.”

Others were sad to hear the news, writing: “Jax Taylor isn’t returning for season 3. I won’t be watching after this season,” while another agreed, “Ugh honestly sucks because he def brought spice to the show that was entertaining but I get it.”

Last month, Taylor reportedly marked a milestone in his sobriety journey, sharing in a statement to Variety: “I just celebrated my 200th day of sobriety from both alcohol and cocaine. It’s been a long road and continues to be as I work through my mental health issues.”

Taylor will appear at the reunion for The Valley, which has already been taped. The show’s finale is slated to air July 22. It’s not yet known if the remainder of the cast — including Danny Booko, Nia Sanchez, Kristen Doute, Janet Caperna, Jason Caperna, Jesse Lally, Michelle Saniei, and others — will all return for season three.
