Brandon Scherff confirmed to have sprained MCL, likely to miss 3-5 weeks

It was confirmed on Monday afternoon that Washington’s right guard Brandon Scherff will miss the next several weeks of the 2020 season with a sprained MCL in his right knee.

The injury came late in the first half for Scherff after getting rolled up on while pass blocking. Initially, the injury looked to be pretty bad, as Scherff crumbled to the turf and appeared to be in a great deal of pain. He eventually walked off the field under his own power and went straight to the locker room for evaluation.

Fearing the worst, getting news that he is only out for a few weeks is a positive for Washington.

In the interim, while Scherff looks to get back healthy, Washington has some questions to answer on the offensive line. They announced on Monday that they were bringing in G Jeremy Vujnovich to work out for the team, and they also have the option of going to Wes Schweitzer, who filled in well for Scherff on Sunday.

Thanks to new rules in the NFL this season, Washington will likely place Scherff on the three-week Injured Reserve, freeing up a roster spot to sign someone in his place.
