Brad Stevens thought Marcus Smart would lead Celtics through adversity

Marcus Morris’ recent comments put the Boston Celtics in an interesting spot leading into Tuesday night’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. It seems things worked out, given the Celtics won 112-109 and Morris said the game was “very fun.”

Marcus Smart felt Morris gave the team a nudge in the right direction with his comments. However, Brad Stevens expected Smart would be the one to help Boston through this rough patch.

“Whenever we’ve been challenged the way we’ve been challenged the last three days, you have very little doubt that Marcus (Smart) is going to come out and lead the way with energy, effort, physicality, toughness, all those things,” Stevens told reporters.

Smart actually had one of his slower nights of late, scoring only eight on 3 of 14 shooting. But the moments, like his throwdown in the final 30 seconds of the game, gave the Celtics the energy Stevens referenced.
