Brabners, Essar Oil UK and Northern Gritstone: The latest 22 North West hires and promotions

Companies based all across the North West have made top hires and promotions over the last seven days.

The likes of law firms, fund managers and oil giants have all made major announcements.

Below, BusinessLive rounds up the latest hires and promotions that we feel you should not miss.

Brabners

Law firm Brabners has expanded the presence of its family law team following the appointment of Amanda Long.

She joins as a chartered legal executive within Brabners’ new Lancashire office, based at Bamber Bridge, following the firm’s relocation from Preston earlier this year.

Originally from Blackpool, Amanda Long has more than 20 years’ industry experience in the region, having previously held roles in Preston and Chorley.

She advises on a wide range of family law matters, including divorce and financial settlements, separation disputes and childcare arrangements. She also specialises as a court advocate, providing advice and representing clients in the family court.

Baltic Creative Community Interest Company

Baltic Creative Community Interest Company (CIC) has welcomed two new members to its board of directors with the appointment of Ngunan Adamu, founder of iWoman Academy CIC, and property professional, Andrew Byrne.

Both new board members will focus on supporting the creative community in their new roles.

Chair Dr Fiona Armstrong-Gibbs said: "We’re really excited that Andrew and Ngunan have joined us, they are well respected in the region and bring a fresh perspective to our next phase as we refocus on our purpose.

"Andrew’s experience in commercial property is incredibly valuable as we hope to expand our portfolio, and Ngunan’s leadership and entrepreneurial approach in the creative and digital sector will bring huge benefits to our community.

"We’re going into the last quarter of 2022 in a very strong position, with a diverse, talented, and experienced board, and we can’t wait to continue our work into 2023."

Jackson Lees

Andrew Leakey has joined Jackson Lees solicitors, which has offices in Liverpool, Manchester and on the Wirral, as head of civil and commercial litigation.

Mr Leakey, who has been a go-to legal expert on television programmes such as This Morning, Channel 4 News and The One Show, said: "I’m very pleased to head up the civil and commercial litigation team and join a firm which has such a high reputation.

"I enjoy dispute resolution as no two days are ever the same and I’m driven by assisting clients to provide solutions to what may seem an intractable problem - this is something I want to share with my colleagues through Jackson Lees’ fantastic training academy.

"I look forward to leading the team and implementing my previous two decades of experience in litigation to ensure we are offering the best service to our clients and getting the best possible outcomes for them."

MSP Global

Production, AV and events specialist MSP Global has recruited four new team members.

Cerys Butcher joins the firm as project co-ordinator, responsible for the management of projects from inception to completion.

Emily Hardy joins the Aintree-headquartered firm from Liverpool Chamber, while Phil Coumbe and Gareth Lewis have been appointed as warehouse manager and lighting engineer respectively.

The firm has also made two senior promotions in recent months, with Lewis Nolan becoming a senior production engineer and Alister Harding being promoted to project co-ordinator.

River Capital

Following the company’s recent re-brand and relocation to new offices, North West fund manager River Capital has added to its team with a series of recent hires and promotions.

David Walters has been promoted to investment director in the venture team while Ethan Dent has come on board as marketing manager. He joins other recent recruits investment manager Jonathan Newton and head of finance Sarah Moss.

CEO Mark Borzomato said: "Recruiting and investing in our people is key as we look to grow our business and further support our clients and SMEs across the region.

"I am therefore delighted to welcome the new team members, and to congratulate David on his well-deserved promotion."

Fletcher Bond

Manchester-based Fletcher Bond has appointed Liam Walker as graduate surveyor.

Mr Walker has recently completed an MSc commercial building surveying course at Liverpool John Moores University.

He will work alongside managing director Rory Dillon and the team advising banks, developers, insolvency practitioners and property firms.

Mr Walker said: "I am excited about learning from an experienced and ever adapting team at this early stage in my career, whilst being able to assist the company in achieving its growth goals."

UK Container Maintenance

Cheshire-based container repair and refurbishment company UK Container Maintenance (UKCM) has added to its team with two new recruits.

Vittorio Iuorio joins the Winsford-based firm as sales manager while Jamie-Lee Ross has been appointed to the position of purchasing and production planner.

CEO Emma Elston said: "We have recently brought to market several new products and services for which we have seen substantial success so far; to ensure that the high level of customer service that we are well-known for remains at the forefront of the business, we have been on a recruitment drive.

"It is a pleasure to welcome Jay and Vittorio to the team, who will both be an invaluable addition to the company with their passion, experience and extensive skill set."

Clough & Willis

Bury and Bolton-based law firm Clough & Willis has awarded two new training contracts.

Joshua Beattie, who recently completed his legal practice course, first joined the firm as a paralegal in the litigation team in 2020.

The second training contract has been awarded to Rafia Faruk who has worked in the private client team for a year. She also joined the firm as a paralegal.

She said: "Both Joshua and myself are really excited to be starting our training contracts. Starting as paralegals gave us a fantastic grounding but our focus is now on benefiting from the quality training Clough & Willis offers alongside ongoing supervision and support from our colleagues."

Essar Oil UK

Essar Oil UK has announced the appointment of Mark Palios, chairman and co-owner of Tranmere Rovers FC, as an independent non-executive board director.

Mr Palios has co-owned Tranmere Rovers with his wife Nicola Palios since 2014 and has over 40 years of commercial and senior leadership experience to Essar.

He said: "I am delighted to join Essar’s board. This is an exciting time in the company’s continued growth plans, as it delivers on its commitment for transforming for tomorrow by becoming a leader in the energy transition.

"I’ve seen first-hand the importance Essar gives to the local community, not just in its sponsorship of Tranmere Rovers, but across its operations. Not least, Essar continues to expand its apprenticeship programme and to welcome new graduate cohorts, both schemes that directly support the term career aspirations of our younger generation."

Lancaster Maloney Martin

Manchester-based chartered surveyors Lancaster Maloney has appointed Joshua Martin as a director.

The company name will now change to Lancaster Maloney Martin with immediate effect.

Mr Martin said: "It is an honour to become a Director at Lancaster Maloney Martin and I look forward to driving continued growth within commercial practice whilst continuing relationships with our existing clients, particularly within the education and healthcare sectors."

In a joint statement, founders Steven Lancaster and Peter Maloney added: "This is an incredibly exciting time for the company and key to our long-term strategy.

"We are delighted to welcome Josh onboard and look forward to seeing him channel his energies into his role as director.

"The company will shortly be celebrating twenty happy and successful years in business and this move gives us great enthusiasm looking forward to the future."

Nexer Digital

Macclesfield-based design and development agency Nexer Digital has added to its product and optimisation team with new appointments.

Lee Emery, previously product manager at Nexer Digital and digital transformation manager at Stockport Council, has been appointed as product and optimisation team lead.

In addition, Lee Valentine will be joining the product and optimisation team as a business analyst.

Northern Gritstone

Northern Gritstone, the new investment business focused on university spin-outs and science and technology enabled businesses in the north of England, has announced that Gareth Llewellyn has joined the company as an investment director.

Mr Llewellyn is the fourth addition to the investment team this year. He will work alongside chief investment officer Marion Bernard as the company prepares to build on its initial investments in life sciences company, Imperagen, immersion cooling technology producer, Iceotope, and biological engineering firm, Opteran.

He joins from his current role as chief operating officer at Synomics, a biological and agritech insights business launched by the Wheatsheaf Group, where he was responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the business.
