Boys play football metres away from 'controlled explosion'

Two boys were playing football just metres away from a 'controlled explosion'..

Footage taken on a mobile phone and shared on social media shows several police cars in Dundalk Field, next to Dundalk Road in Widnes at around 7.50pm on Monday, May 30. In the footage you can hear police counting down before seeing a huge explosion in the fields.

Before the explosion you can see two boys playing football just metres away.

It's unclear where the device came from, but multiple eyewitnesses said they saw roads near ASDA, on Widnes Road, were closed around the same time as the incident. People commented underneath the video saying they heard the explosion from their homes and were thankful to know what the noise was.

Cheshire Police were approached for comment.
