Boys 'held at knifepoint' in 'appalling' Q-Park attack

A boy was left scared to leave his own home after being "held at knifepoint" in an "appalling" attack at a city centre Q-Park.

A woman told the ECHO her brother met up with his friends on Sunday, March 6.

The teenager was with a group of other 15-year-olds who were waiting for their parents to pick them up at a city centre car park when they were "approached by a group of lads".

One of the men reportedly pulled out a knife and her brother and two other friends had their bikes stolen during the "horrible attack", which even left one youngster in hospital with injuries.

She told the ECHO: "There was a group of them that came out of the lift and targeted these children. One of the boys was badly beaten and is in hospital and three of the lads had their bikes taken.

"It was awful. My brother is terrified, he's really shaken up and is scared to leave the house. He's white as a sheet and doesn't even want to go to school."

Yasmine, who saved up the money to buy her younger brother the bike, added: "The bikes were really good bikes, but it's not about the money. It's the fact someone has took something so important belonging to someone else.

"He was too scared to tell me he was jumped."

She said: "It happened on the Sunday [March 6] around 4pm and two hours later my mum called to say [my brother] was with the police. It's horrible, just awful.

"My brother had to phone an ambulance for his friend who was beaten up. They are all terrified to go out. One of his friends had his phone broken too."

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said two people were arrested following the incident.

They said: "We have arrested two males following a robbery and assault in Liverpool on Sunday, March 6.

"At around 5.35pm we received a report that a 15-year-old male had been assaulted in Q-Park on Liver Street, Liverpool City centre.

"It was reported that two males were riding their pedal bikes on the top floor of Q-Park when they were approached by a group of male youths.

"One of the males was reported to have been assaulted by the youths, one of whom was reported to have produced a knife.

"The youths were reported to have stolen the two bikes and then made off from the scene.

"Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital for a serious but non-life-threatening head injury.

"Following a police investigation, two 14-year-old males, both from Liverpool, were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 Assault and theft of a pedal cycle.

"They were questioned by police and have now been bailed with conditions not to enter Liverpool City Centre."

Detective Inspector Chris Saidi said: “This was an appalling incident, leaving a boy injured in hospital.

“The use of weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.

“While two arrests have been made in this incident, enquiries remain ongoing and we would urge anyone in the L1 area on Sunday evening who saw anything or anyone suspicious to come forward."

The woman has set up a fundraising page in a bid to raise some money for the teenagers who lost their bikes in an effort to put a smile on their face.

She said: "I wanted to do something for them. If we can help as much as we can that would be amazing.

"I saved to buy him this bike, we aren't a rich family but we wanted to make his dream come true so one day we took him to Halfords where the bike was waiting and his reaction was priceless.

"He sobbed his heart out and didn't believe the bike was his and it really irritates me someone has come along and taken this away from him.

"He was scared to tell me he'd been in this dangerous situation which caused one of his friends serious harm, because the bike had been taken. But it's not about the money."
