An eight-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a taxi.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the horror smash in Walton, Liverpool, at 8.15am this morning.

Local reports claim the Toyota Prius, which stopped at the scene to assist police with enquiries, was a private hire vehicle.

Some eyewitnesses at the scene said it could have been an Uber, the Liverpool Echo reports.

A seven-year-old girl also suffered a minor leg injuries in the incident.

Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, senior clinician and hazardous response team were all sent to the scene of the crash in Stopgate Lane.
